Our Training Programs

We offer the following training programs: Yoshimoto OG Basic TrainingYoshimoto OG Advanced TrainingYoshimoto OG Multisensory Math, Yoshimoto OG Preschool Program and Yoshimoto OG for English Language LearnersDetails of these workshops are featured below. Please note that OGI trainings include all materials required for full implementation which are included in the cost of the course.

Yoshimoto OG Basic Training
(5 days, 40-hours)

This five day Yoshimoto O.G. training will focus on a data-driven, clinical, multisensory, phonetic, teacher guided Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching reading, writing and spelling in whole classroom, small group and one-to-one settings. Upon completing this course participants will have acquired the skills necessary to fully implement this data-driven solution for teaching reading to all students.  Teachers implementing the Yoshimoto method with fidelity are demonstrating consistent and significant growth that is being replicated across the U.S. Perhaps more significant is that teachers love the course, the materials and the success they are seeing in their classrooms and interventions.

The course will cover the three levels of decoding and spelling: sound, syllable, and morphological. With the latter, introductory morphology, the emphasis will be on increasing the vocabulary for all children – general and special education students.  Further, the system supports the outcomes within the Common Core.  Included is information about dyslexia, early and ongoing identification and how the brain reads.

Note: All training course materials, including extensive teacher resources, are included in the cost of the course.

Yoshimoto OG Advanced Training
(One Day)

This Advanced Orton-Gillingham International training provides the knowledge that is essential for all students who have sucessfully gained decoding skills. These advanced skills enable students to effectively tackle materials in all subject areas and at all reading levels.

The pre-requsite for this class is the OG Yoshimoto Basic Training (40 hours).

This class will include:

  • Morphology

  • Sorting & Sorting Rules

  • Syllabication- advanced

  • Syllable games

  • Camel word building

  • Consonant – le sheets

  • Concept cards

  • Morphology – practice and implement

  • Activities and games to reinforce learning

  • Abbreviated lesson plan lesson

Note: All training course materials, including extensive teacher resources, are included in the cost of the course.

Yoshimoto OG Multisensory Math
(Two Days)

Math can be an area of difficulty for many students and particularly those with dyslexia.  This 2-day training will discuss problems that students have in mathematics and then focus on multi-sensory strategies using manipulatives to teach addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with some fraction work.  The emphasis of this math program is conceptual understanding as opposed to rote learning.  This program can be used for remediation, instruction for mainstream students and for enrichment.

See how you can “build” multiplication problems, teach algebra in kindergarten using manipulatives, and draw a division problem. This training is for people who are “open” to teaching mathematics in a different way  –  multi-sensory, structured, visual, and conceptually oriented.

This class is designed within the framework for teaching mathematics by National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and National Math Panel and addresses the following concepts:

  • From concrete or manipulatives to semi-abstract or drawing to abstract.

  • Teaching patterns/other skills such as auditory sequential memory, etc.

  • Addition: simple addition, I want to be a ten or regrouping, and commutative property of addition.

  • Solving for missing addends and solving for x variable for kindergarten

  • Subtraction: owing and having (extension to negative and positive numbers), regrouping.

  • Multiplication:  counting a number a certain number of times; skip counting, building and drawing multiplication problems, regrouping, and transition to traditional.

  • Division: how many times is a number contained in another number; build/drawing division problems & regrouping.

  • Money and time skills.

  • Fractions: addition and subtraction of fractions with like and unlike denominators; finding equivalent fractions using manipulatives.

  • Understand the Characteristics of dyscalculia.

Note: All training course materials, including extensive teacher resources, are included in the cost of the course.
